Our Story

Hi there,

We are Kat and Tshepi, a husband and wife team who are fitness enthusiasts. We are parents to two small kids, a girl and a boy . Kat is a project manager by profession and Tshepi is a high school teacher. In 2020, due to concerns over our physical, emotional and mental health we began to revamp our lifestyle and made efforts to adopt a lifestyle centered around fitness and health. Through the adoption of a new lifestyle, many aspects of our lives were positively transformed and led us to live a bit of a healthier life than we did before 2020. Alongside the lifestyle changes, we managed to lose 21kg (Kat) and 28.4kg(Tshepi) respectively. Subsequently, we started this blog site to share what we have learned on our fitness journey with the hope to inspire those who are desiring to lose weight and get fit.

1. How our fitness journey began

Our fitness journey began on the 23rd October 2020. This was the year where the world was turned upside down due to the pandemic of covid-19. We found ourselves being indirect casualties of the pandemic. We were anxious, insecure and scared due to the uncertainty and catastrophic nature of the pandemic. We dealt with the anxieties as best we could by reason, being informed and being cautious, but as emotional beings we also resorted to the comfort of food and drinks which led to weight gain, and well… more anxieties. 

2. The turning point

The weight gain did not just make its presence felt by the tight fit of our clothes, but also through various illnesses. Tshepi got diagnosed with high blood pressure and later with high cholesterol. Kat was constantly struggling with heartburn and indigestion. We were getting heavier and heavier, always feeling tired, stressed and hungry. It was clear that our eating and drinking habits were leading us to a poor state of health and an unhappy life in general. We knew we had to do something.

3. The transformation

To reduce the extra baggage we acquired in the early months of 2020 and return to a more palatable path, we decided to commit to a healthier lifestyle. For us, this meant that we needed to resign from our sedentary lifestyle and become active somehow. This also meant that we needed to painfully bade farewell to our beloved snacks and confectioneries among many other indulgences which were staple for us. 

To transition to a theoretically preferred and a rather ideal path, and to reduce the extra baggage we acquired in the early months of 2020, we simply had to start exercising and minding the food we ate. We started by waking up early in the morning to exercise inside the house. All we could do was the exercises we could remember from our childhood sporting days, nothing exciting but just what we needed to start our fitness engine. We also started paying attention to our food, and reduced what we considered unhealthy. 

And so we began our journey of many uphills, downhills and mistakes too as we eagerly and excitedly attempted to lose weight and get into the groove of the “fit and healthy”. We tried several products and supplements to lose weight and get fit…really at unnecessary costs and efforts. Albert Einstein said “Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new”, well this was true for us as we tried many new things and made many mistakes, but we learned (….a lot) from them. 

Through it all, we managed to lose the extra weight, just enough to consider ourselves fit. Kat was able to lose 21kg and Tshepi lost 28.4kg. Looking back at our state in 2020 and comparing it to where we are currently, we are grateful and undoubtedly believe that our transformation was possible only through the Grace of God.

4. The birth of Kat and Tshepi blog website

In the beginning of 2023, the idea of this blog was conceived as we contemplated on how we can help others  to achieve their weight loss goals and become fit. We started this blog to document our ongoing fitness and weight loss journey. Through this blog, we would like to share lessons, tips and information on losing weight and getting fit with the hope of inspiring others to embark on their fitness journeys and reach their desired fitness and health goals.

The Kat and Tshepi blog is about transformation, a state we call “Metanoia” . If you are struggling with weight loss or contemplating starting a fitness journey, we would like to be your companion in transforming to your best version, let us call it ur-version 2.0. We therefore would like to invite you to journey with us by subscribing to the blog’s posts.
